Top 5 Time Saving Tips

1. Set deadlines or keep time limits to the tasks you do. It helps to keep you on track and moving on schedule and eliminates time wasting. It also eliminates the idea of achieving perfection.

2. Group your time into similar activities. This allows you to maintain focus and streamline the process. Getting more done in a shorter period of time.

3. Plan. Abraham Lincoln is quoted to say "By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail". By investing a little time to understand what you need to do the next day or for the next week and organising yourself accordingly you will save yourself time and stress. Not to mention accomplish what you set out to do!

4. Eliminate the excess. There are plenty of things in your day and life for that matter that can take up your time. Identify what is important, what can be outsourced and eliminate the rest to free up more of your valuable time.

5. Keep focused. Being clear on what you need to achieve without distraction is key to making the most of your time and getting things done. If you have a big project on your plate book out 'distraction free' time in your calendar to complete it.

Save Time - Get Organised
Time Saving Tips

Get Organised today with thepencilsse easy steps

Step 1 - Start Small. Choose an area in your home that is small (bathroom cabinet or junk drawer) and assign yourself some time to organise it. Schedule this time into your diary.

Step 2 - Classify. Clear everything out of the space ie. your bathroom cabinet and make a decision on it. Keep/ Toss/ Move/ Giveaway. I think it is best to make your decisions as you go, however some people may prefer to have a (small) indecision pile that is then reviewed at the end. If there is an item that you find too hard to make a decision on and therefore becomes a big barrier to progress then I recommend putting it aside and dealing with it at the end when the rest of the task is complete.

Step 3 - Sort. Put all your like things together. This not only helps when storing things away but also identifies if perhaps you have too many of one item and could possibly let go of a few more items.

Step 4 - Contain. Select the appropriate storage containers to accommodate the remaining items. Keep in mind that things need to be easy to see and access for them to be useful and functional, so choose things that not only fit the items to be put away but also the space they are going into. TIP: As part of the putting away process, some things may benefit by being labelled, especially if they are items that are used only seasonally eg. winter quilt (QS)

Step 5 - Evaluate. Use the new space and storage for 1-2 weeks (depending on how often the space is used) and assess what is working or what could be improved.

Step 6 - Maintain. Key things to ensure the new organised system is maintained are as follows;
Communicate the system to all users of the space (hopefully you consulted them as you went to ensure the space and system accomodates their needs as well)
A place for everything and everything in its place
Don't put it down, put it away
